Meet the Pastor Pastor Wiles was born and raised in the Central Maine area. Because his mother died shortly after childbirth, he was raised by his paternal grandparents. His granddad was a lumberman and so his early years were spent in lumber camps. Early on he learned how to drive a team of horses, handle a bucksaw and do physical labor. Later he learned to run a chainsaw and drive a woods tractor. Upon graduation from high school he took a job, planning to save money to go to college and study civil engineering. The first job failed due to cutbacks and he found a job loading trucks at a bakery. It was while working here that through reading a book and the witness of two fellow workers that he came to know Jesus Christ as his personal saviour. This decision to receive Christ changed the focus of his life. Attendance at a Bible conference led to a call to take Bible training at New Brunswick Bible Institute. Following graduation in 1962 he married Judith Ann Mitchell whom he met at NBBI. Their first choice was missions but the Lord closed the door to that and, rather, directed him into the pastorate. His first church was in Athens, Maine where he was founding pastor of the Church of the Open Bible. Next he was called to Norway Baptist Church in Norway, Maine. In 1973 he accepted a call to the Curtis Corner Baptist Church in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. In 1985 the Lord led them back to Maine to the Belgrade Bible Church. Pastor and Mrs. Wiles have 5 grown children, 13 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. |
